Ramona and gradpa Jones
Grand Ole Opry, Nashville, Tennessee, 1974
Grandpa Jones was best known for his work on the
Grand Ole Opry, starting in 1946, and Hee Haw.
Born Louis Marshall Jones, he actually started playing the part of
a grapndpa in 1935, at the ripe age of 22, teaming up with traditional
singer Bradley Kincaid to work the Lum and Abner
radio show broadcast from (of all places) Boston. The act worked well
enough that Jones remained a grandpa until he died in 1998. One of
the best of the old-time banjo players, balladeers, and comedians,
Ramona often performed with him. Jones suffered a stroke on the Opry
stage. As cast members gathered around him, he looked up and said,
"See, I can still draw a crowd."
