Johnny Wright
Lonestar Ranch, Reeds Ferry, New Hampshire, 1981

Johnny Wright was a cabinetmaker and a banjo player and fiddler when he met and married eighteen-year-old Kitty Wells on October 30, 1937. They have performed together for more than sixty years. Johnny also teamed with Jack Anglin from 1938 to 1963 and the two, as Johnny and Jack, produced many fine recordings combining bluegrass with a hint of honky tonk. They backed Kitty on her classic "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" and had several hits of their own, including the often-covered "Poison Love" in 1951 and the number-one best-seller "(Oh Baby Mine) I Get So Lonely" in 1954. After Anglin's death in 1963, in a car wreck on the way to Patsy Cline's funeral, Johnny had a number-one hit on his own in 1965, the patriotic "Hello Vietnam."
